The Thai Foreign Minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, recently stated that “[Thailand’s] intention has
never been confrontation because we understand that our peace is inseparable from Cambodia’s peace.
The Thai Foreign Ministry is remarkable in its ability to compartmentalize its foreign relations in that they see no contradiction between professing peace on the one hand while its armed forces occupy its neighbor’s territory in direct violation of international law on the other.
The mental gymnastics exhibited by the Thai government could earn an Olympic medal if such an event were ever held.
